Golf
K
intore Golf Club, situated in the Royal Burgh of Kintore, was formed in 1911, since which time the total membership has grown to around 700.

In the early 1990’s the course was extended to 18 holes and now covers a large area of ground from the Don basin, overlooked by the clubhouse, to mature woodland at the far perimeter, giving an interesting contrast between the ‘old and new nines’. Excellent drainage results in very few days of lost play throughout the year.

Although not as long as some – measuring 6019 yards from the medal tees – the course means the visitor cannot afford to be overconfident. The course is a mixture of hilly parkland, and holes lined by trees and criss-crossed by burns, producing some very interesting and tricky holes.

The golfer will enjoy spectacular views over the River Don, stretching away to Bennachie and the Grampian range of hills to the north and south.  (more...)

Further golf courses located within a short drive of Kintore include:

Details of over another 50 golf courses located around the area can be found at the Golf Grampian webiste.

Bowling

Kintore has two bowling clubs.  The Kintore Bowling Club who play outdoors, operate from late April through to September at the clubs bowling greens located behind the primary school.  From October to April, the club is open every Thursday evening at 19:30.  Further outdoor bowling facilities can be found in Aberdeen.

The other Kintore Indoor Bowling club (carpet bowls) play in the school gymnasium every Wednesday and Saturday night.  Further indoor bowling can be found in Inverurie and Aberdeen.

Ten pin bowling, the type of bowling that we all generally play from time to time, is available in Aberdeen along within Codonnas Amusement Park.

Cricket

Kintore Cricket Club was established in 1878 and is dedicated to the provision of good quality local cricketing facilities for the benefit of its members and the local community.  Kintore currently has 2 teams playing in the Aberdeenshire Grades Cricket Association with the 1st XI the current champions of Grade 1 and the 2nd XI playing in Grade 3.

The cricket club has very close links with the local community and is very well supported, we regularly put on social events throughout the course of the year and actively encourage new members

Kintore Cricket Club is always on the look out for new players with the weekly practice night taking place on a Tuesday and all new members of any age or ability are welcome to attend.  Visit Kintore Cricket Club web site for more information and details of practice nights.  For more general information about cricket in the Aberdeenshire area, visit Aberdeenshire Cricket Association website.

Cycling

The bike was invented by a Scotsman, Kirkpatrick Macmillan, in 1840. For long, it languished under the label of "poor man's transport". The advent of the mountain bike has propelled the once-humble bike into the forefront of the leisure industry. It's quickly been adopted across age group. (If you can't bring a bike, don't worry. You'll be able to hire one almost anywhere.

With a bike and the network of rural roads that covers this part of the world, you'll be able to cycle safely and peacefully almost anywhere, the occasional flock of sheep or tractor apart! Use a bike to find the local forests, or explore the lesser-known ways. (more...)

Football

It is believed that Kintore does not have any football organisation within it which may be due to the lack of a dedicated football club or field.  However many other football clubs do exist in surrounding towns and villages ranging from youth football club levels up to semi-professional levels.  A list of these clubs can be found here.

In nearby Inverurie, the Inverurie Loco Works football club, whose home pitch is Harlaw Park in Inverurie, are currently playing in the Highland league.  The one and only local premier football league team is Aberdeen Football Club.  At present their stadium is located near Aberdeen beach though plans are in progress to build a new stadium in Kingswells which is a much nearer location.

Skiing

Snow sports of all kind are well catered for with two of Scotland's five ski areas found in this area. Whether you're a skier, snowboarder or cross-country enthusiast - at beginner, intermediate or advanced level - you're sure to find a facility to meet your winter sports needs.

Skiing In The AreaGlenshee stakes its claim as Scotland's most extensive ski area with more than 25 miles (40 km) of downhill runs. These ski grounds sit astride the summit of the highest public road in the UK, some 2200 feet above sea level. Reach it by the A93 south from Braemar.  Glenshee is well suited to intermediate skiers with no more than 26 blue and red runs whilst advanced skiers will look out for the famous moguls of the 'Tiger'.

The Lecht is a more compact centre, focussed on families, ideal for beginners, with Tomintoul (highest village in the Highlands) as the nearest centre. The ski and snowboard school is located beside the nursery tows and friendly and experienced instructors will make sure you enjoy and learn from your experience.

Activity at The Lecht is not just a winter experience. In the summer months many of the tows will take you to the summit for spectacular views over the Cairngorms. Look out also for the 'Deval Karts', tubing and summer skiing and boarding.  Instruction, equipment hire and refreshment facilities all operate during the skiing season. This period can be as early as December and sometimes continue to as late as April.

For more information, please visit SkiScotland.
