Transport Links Information last updated by HFRA Chairman on 29 April 2006 (Comment) Transport links are key to any community's prosperity both in the past, present and the future.Air Travel For a city of its size Aberdeen enjoys exceptional links with other parts of the UK, Europe and beyond and its international air services include Amsterdam, Bergen, Dublin, Esbjerg, Paris and Stavanger and many more destinations in the UK and abroad. Aberdeen Airport offers an extensive range of flights to match the business and leisure needs of the North-east of Scotland, with London just over an hour away and the pattern of air traffic reflecting the needs of the oil and gas industry. The airport’s first class facilities are in just the right place with just a short 10 minute drive from Kintore. Aberdeen Airport has plans in place that will extend the runway to a length that will enable it to handle bigger aircraft capable of longer distance flights thus offering a greater selection of destinations. Due to close links with the oil and gas industry, Aberdeen Airport is the busiest civilian heliport in the world. Kintore also has a heliport located 2 miles north of it which is operated by a local company that provide helicopter services to both industry and the general public. Road Travel Kintore is situated 12 miles north west of the centre of Aberdeen, just off the A96 trunk road from Aberdeen to Inverness. Travelling time into Aberdeen by road can be around just 15 minutes. Several park and ride schemes operate around Aberdeen that allow you to park your car up in a secure car park and take a bus straight into the city centre. The nearest one to Kintore can be found in Kingswells. Plans are in place to soon build a bypass around Aberdeen that will enable traffic whose destination are to the north or west of Aberdeen to reach these destinations without having to travel through Aberdeen. This should make travelling from Kintore to destinations other than Aberdeen much easier and quicker. Bus Travel There are regular bus services operating through Kintore to Aberdeen, Inverurie and the surrounding villages. Timetables can be found by clicking here. All bus travel on local and scheduled long distance coach services in Scotland is free for all eligible persons either over the age of 60, disabled or unable to drive due a medical condition. Visit Aberdeenshire Council website for more details. People who are unable to use conventional bus services because of severe physical disability or infirmity could be entitled to a TaxiCard that would offer half price taxi and rail travel to the holder. Visit Aberdeenshire Council website for more details. Rail Travel Although the main line between Aberdeen and Inverness runs through Kintore, at present there is no railway stop in Kintore. The nearest railway station is at Inverurie, located approximately 4 miles away. From there you will be able to catch a train running to the north (to Inverness) or south (to Aberdeen) where you will be able to catch connecting trains running throughout the UK.
